Care For Plush Toys

Mar 04, 2026

1. Maintain a clean indoor environment to minimize dust accumulation; frequently use a clean, dry, and soft cloth or tool to wipe down the surface of the toys.

2. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and ensure that both the interior and exterior of the toys remain dry.

3. When cleaning, adapt your approach based on the toy's size. For smaller toys, use adhesive tape to cover any delicate accessories or parts prone to abrasion; then, place the toy directly into a washing machine on a gentle cycle. After spinning it dry, hang it in a cool, shaded area to air dry completely, periodically fluffing and patting the toy to keep its fur and stuffing soft and fluffy. For larger toys, locate the seam where the stuffing was inserted, cut the stitches, and remove the filling (typically acrylic cotton)-though you may choose to leave the stuffing in specific areas to help the toy retain its shape. Use tape to protect any delicate accessories, wash and dry the outer fabric shell, then reinsert the stuffing, reshape the toy, and sew the seam shut.

4. For plush or fabric toys containing sophisticated electronic components, mechanical movements, or sound modules, you *must* remove the electronic parts (some of which are not waterproof) or batteries before washing to prevent water damage.

5. Once a cleaned toy has dried completely, use a clean comb or similar tool to brush the fur neatly in the direction of the pile, restoring its smoothness and aesthetic appeal.

6. Inspect the toy's interior contents to ensure they are clean and sanitary; substandard toys may contain fillings made of discarded plastics, fiber scraps, paper shreds, or even "black-hearted cotton"-a hazardous, recycled material explicitly banned by national regulations.

7. Gently tug and twist the toy's eyes, nose, and mouth to check for secure attachment. If the tensile strength of these small parts fails to meet national safety standards, the product is considered defective.

8. For the sake of personal health and hygiene, plush toys should undergo regular sanitization and cleaning treatments.

9. A simple and effective method for sterilization and disinfection involves using a high-powered steam iron to gently and repeatedly press over the plush surface; this technique offers a certain degree of germ-killing and dirt-removal efficacy.

10. Tips for washing plush toys at home: For smaller toys with few delicate accessories, use warm water (30–40°C) for either hand washing or machine washing. Use a neutral laundry detergent for cleaning; for long-pile plush toys, using a detergent specifically designed for cashmere or wool will yield better results.

11. How to keep toys clean and extend their lifespan: When you first purchase a toy, be sure not to discard the original packaging-whether it is a cardboard box or a plastic bag-as this can be used to protect the toy from dust during storage. In regions with humid climates, consider placing a desiccant alongside the toys to prevent moisture damage. Furthermore, when storing stuffed toys, try to avoid stacking heavy objects on top of them to prevent deformation or damage.
